Rajoana in Patiala Says—Akal Takht Should Take the Decision; 30-Year Pending Case is an Injustice.
Speaking to the media was Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was convicted of killing former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. According to Balwant Singh, he received a death sentence 19 years ago. For fourteen years, his case has been pending before the Central Government. He insisted that the Akal Takht Sahib make a decision right away while prioritising communal respect. On Friday, Balwant was taken for a standard dental examination at the Dental Medical College in Patiala.
In the meantime, a mercy appeal has been filed in the case by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). For the past 13 years, this has been pending with the President. Rajoana’s death sentence had already been changed by the Supreme Court to Additionally, clemency arguments have been made. The Court had stated at the hearing that it would render the ultimate decision if the Central Government did not decide on the mercy petition.
Rajoana gets a dental checkup: On Friday, Rajoana was taken by police to the Dental College in Patiala for a dental examination. According to Balwant Singh Rajoana, he has been brought here for dental examinations on multiple occasions, and this is a routine check-up. Rajoana said that his case should be decided quickly. The case began thirty years ago, he was given a death sentence nineteen years ago, and the Supreme Court has been reviewing the decision’s delay for the past five years.
Appeal to Akal Takht Sahib: Rajoana also begged and asked for the Jathedar, the Akal Takht Sahib, and the Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
