Made in India’s ‘Brahmastra,’ the Tejas Mk-1A, Completes First Flight! Find Out Why It Is Being Called a Game Changer?

October 17, 2025: Today, the Tejas Mk-1A, India’s cutting-edge indigenous fighter aircraft, successfully completed its inaugural flight, marking a historic step in the direction of “Make in India”. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was present when this aircraft took flight from the Aircraft Manufacturing Division of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which is based in Nashik. A traditional ‘Water Cannon Salute’ was given to the aircraft after the flight was successfully completed. In addition to being swift, this aircraft has cutting-edge technology and lethal armaments.

Speed and Range: It can fly up to 50,000 feet and reach a top speed of over 2,200 km per hour.

Modern Technology: It has a suite of Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, a sophisticated Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, and excellent avionics.

Lethal Weapons: It can carry a number of domestic weapons, including the BrahMos-NG guided bomb and the air-to-air Astra missile.

Plan of Production and Delivery To speed up the delivery of Tejas aircraft to the Indian Air Force, HAL is exerting every effort.

Delivery: Over the course of the following four years, HAL will provide the Indian Air Force with 83 Tejas Mk-1A fighter planes. However, the American engine’s supply delay has caused some delays in its construction.

Production Capability: The two production lines in Bengaluru can produce 16 aircraft annually, while Nashik can produce eight. A total of 24 fighter jets will now be produced annually following the opening of the third line in Nashik.
