Gold Smuggling Busted at Amritsar Airport: Two Arrested with Gold Worth ₹94 Lakh from Dubai.

Two individuals were apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar while attempting to transport a significant amount of gold. The two defendants carried gold valued at about 94 lakh Indian rupees (9.4 million Indian Rupees) with them from Dubai.

Based on particular intelligence, the DRI team reportedly halted two questionable individuals who had boarded an aircraft from Dubai. It was discovered during the search that the two passengers had concealed the gold in their pants as a paste.

Admitted to Smuggling Gold
The gold paste, which weighed 1.95 kilogrammes, was confiscated by the DRI officials and turned into pure gold. The confiscated gold is estimated to be worth 94 lakh rupees. Both defendants have admitted to smuggling gold. Under the Customs Act of 1962, the DRI has detained both of them, and an inquiry is being conducted.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that both individuals had concealed their gold jewellery in their cargo trousers pockets. Gold jewellery measuring 396.440 grammes and 430.440 grammes was found during the personal search.

Market Value About 94 Lakh: It is estimated that the recovered gold has a market value of 94 lakh. This jewellery consisted of rings, bracelets, and bangles. In accordance with the Customs Act, all jewellery has been confiscated.

The intention was to sell the recovered ornaments (Baramad Kiye Gaye Aabhushanon) during the holiday season. Both of the defendants admitted during the first round of questioning that they intended to sell these ornaments over the holiday season in India. They were acting in this way in order to benefit financially from the notable disparity in the price of gold between India and Dubai.

The Strict Warning of D.R.I.
The unlawful smuggling of foreign gold and decorations into the country is now being prevented, according to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (D.R.I.). Authorities warn that tough measures will be taken against these smugglers, particularly during the holiday season when demand for gold rises.
