Punjab May Get Exemption from Center in Paddy Procurement Rules: 14-Member Team Engaged in Investigating Flood Damage; Survey to be Completed Today.
The Central Government may provide assistance to Punjabi farmers this year with regard to the purchase of paddy. The administration is thinking of exempting farmers from the procurement regulations. In this regard, a central team travelled to 19 regions impacted by flooding and collected samples of the crops that were harmed. Today, they will finish their survey. Following this, the center’s team will receive the report from these samples, which will serve as the foundation for additional action.
On October 12, the Punjab government sent a letter requesting a modification of the paddy purchase regulations to the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution.
According to the letter, the state’s crops have been severely damaged by the worst floods since 1987. The Centre then dispatched a team of 14 people to Punjab.
Because of these teams’ presence, there is a greater chance that the paddy procurement regulations will be relaxed. About five lakh acres of crops were damaged in the state as a result of the floods and the constant rain, and the quality of the remaining crops has also been significantly impacted.

‘Jal Pralay’ (Deluge/Catastrophe) is what a union minister called it.
On August 22, floods started in Punjab, affecting numerous places in successive waves. By September, things had gotten quite terrible. After that, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the flood-affected areas on September 5 and proclaimed them to be under a “Jal Pralay” (Deluge).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi then travelled to Punjab on September 9. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah separately on September 30. A request to loosen the requirements for agricultural procurement was raised during this meeting.
