Clean Chit to Bathinda Judge by CBI in Bribe Case: Charge Sheet filed against Chandigarh Advocate-Associate, only an old acquaintance, no connection to taking 30 lakh.


Regarding the demand for a bribe of {₹}30 lakh in the name of a judge assigned to Bathinda, the CBI has granted the judge a clean sheet. The investigation found that the judge was not involved in the overall bribery demand incident. Advocate Jatin Salwan of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and his partner Satnam Singh have been charged by the CBI at the Chandigarh District Court.

Advocate Jatin Salwan and his accomplice Satnam Singh were detained by the CBI on August 14, 2025, for receiving a bribe. The two allegedly demanded a payment of {₹}30 lakh from a woman’s brother in order to secure a favorable divorce ruling for her. Harsimranjeet, a Firozpur resident and the complainant, informed the CBI that his sister’s divorce case was still pending in the Bathinda court. He met Sector-15, Chandigarh resident Advocate Jatin Salwan during this period, who said he knew a lot of Bathinda judges and could influence the ruling in his favor. Following his demand of {₹}30 lakh, the CBI received a complaint, and both were apprehended during a trap operation.

Just an old friend; no bribery connection
The judge whose identity was used to demand the money had nothing to do with the case, according to the CBI probe. The judge was questioned by the CBI on the High Court’s directives. When the judge filed a petition in the High Court in 2001 to restore Advocate Salwan’s employment, the judge claimed that his knowledge of him was restricted to a very old service matter case. Their contact was limited to Advocate Salwan, who had argued his case during that period.

According to the CBI’s investigation, the complainant’s sister’s divorce case was being tried in a Special Family Court rather than the judge’s court. Salwan had only used the judge’s name and fabricated his connection in an attempt to win over the complainant and obtain the bribe. Throughout the entire incident, no judicial officer was discovered to have played any part.
