Start of the Pulse Polio Campaign in Amritsar: Medicine will be given to over 2 lakh children; health workers will go door-to-door.
The Health Department’s District Task Force has launched the Pulse Polio campaign in Punjab’s Amritsar district, led by Civil Surgeon Dr Swarnjit Dhawan. The fact that a citywide awareness campaign is now underway makes it novel. October 12, 13, and 14 are the dates of the district’s polio eradication programme.
The goal of this effort is to completely protect children between the ages of 0 and 5 from the polio virus. The software will be operational for three days.
Teams will be on hand at the district’s assigned fixed booths on Sunday, October 12, as part of this three-day campaign, where parents can drop off their kids to receive the polio vaccination. Teams of medical professionals will then go door-to-door on October 13 and 14 to give the kids the polio drops.
Make a commitment to reach every child.
Dr Swarnjit Dhawan, a civil surgeon, provided information, stating that the last recorded case of polio in India occurred in 2011. The World Health Organisation (WHO) subsequently certified India to be polio-free in 2014. The bordering areas are at risk, though, as polio infections are still being reported in other nations like Pakistan and Afghanistan.

1,407 teams were sent out to complete the task.
Everyone was told by Dr Swarnjit Dhawan that no child between the ages of 0 and 5 should be denied the two drops of the life-saving polio vaccination. In this round, 2 lakh 97 thousand 250 children between the ages of 0 and 5 will receive the polio dose out of a total population of 27 lakh 82 thousand 768 who live in 5 lakh 49 thousand 27 houses. For this work, 1,407 teams in all have been dispatched.
