DGP Formulates Strategy to Deal with Criminals: Spot Testing of Samples in Drug Cases, Focus on Social Media, Building Sources in Jails.
To combat crime, Punjabi police have implemented a new tactic. On the one hand, authorities will take tough measures against people who use social media to promote hate speech and exalt criminals, which detracts from the mood. However, the emphasis will be on preventing the plots from being hatched inside the prisons.
The police will create their own sources inside the prisons for this. Large-scale offenders will occasionally be placed under production warrants in order to obtain intelligence. Senior police officers received these tips from Gaurav Yadav, the DGP of Punjab. An eight-minute video of the meeting has been made public by the DGP, whereby officers received a comprehensive briefing. Additionally, in drug trafficking cases, samples will be taken immediately using a drug kit to confirm the nature of the confiscated material and will be documented in the file. In addition, the topic of hiring staff was covered.

During the meeting, DGP brought up about six points:
1. “Hardcore criminals should be dealt with strictly,” the DGP stated. Those who are deemed “misguided” may also receive counselling. These individuals may serve as valuable resources for law enforcement, aiding in the reduction of criminal activity.
2. According to the DGP, each district’s SSPs, DSPs, and SHOs should be aware of the identities of the ten to twenty major drug suppliers in their area. whether they continue to distribute narcotics, are incarcerated, or are evading capture? Eighty-seven per cent of people are convicted. In general, this indicates that the cops are performing well.
3. The system now allows voice samples to be submitted. The inmates’ voice samples are being collected and submitted on the website. In a similar vein, voice samples of those who have been arrested are collected to ensure that there are no issues with subsequent voice sample matching. These cases will gain strength as a result.
4. According to the DGP, samples were previously delivered to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for analysis when drug smugglers were apprehended, but the results were delayed. The substance will now be tested on the spot using a drug kit, and the type of substance that was seized will be identified right away and noted in the file. This will assist in combating crooks.
5. The accused is frequently seated overseas in hearings involving serious crimes. Red Corner and Blue Corner have their warrants out. There must be notices. Additionally, someone’s passport needs to be revoked. The complete records of the offenders in each area should be available in such circumstances. Lawyers and domain specialists will assist with this. This paperwork needs to be really solid because this is an extradition procedure.
6. In every area, social media cells are being established. All districts’ high-ranking officials and SSPs ought to get in touch with the cell. Action should be taken right away if anything is discovered.
All plots are being hatched from within the jails, according to the DGP.
“So, build sources in the jails; bring them (criminals) on production warrants from time to time; along with this, jail inspections will also be conducted.”
