Congress writes to Amit Shah over BJP panellist’s ‘death threat’ to Rahul Gandhi.
In response to a BJP spokesperson’s divisive comments directed at Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi during a televised discussion, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday.
Venugopal stated in his letter on Sunday that if action against the BJP panellist is not taken immediately, it will be interpreted as collusion and the normalisation of violence against Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi received a “chilling and heinous” murder threat from BJP spokesperson and former ABVP leader Printu Mahadev, according to Venugopal.
Showing up for the BJP “Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest,” Mahadev declared during a discussion on the violence in Ladakh.
“Mr Mahadev blatantly incited violence by stating that “Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest.” This isn’t thoughtless hyperbole or a slip of the tongue. The Leader of the Opposition and one of India’s most important political figures is being threatened with death in a cold, planned, and terrifying manner,” Venugopal added.
Rahul Gandhi’s life is immediately in jeopardy, and the Constitution, the rule of law, and the fundamental security guarantees that all citizens, let alone the Leader of the Opposition, are entitled to, according to reports from the Congress general secretary in charge of the organisation.
The Congress MP claimed that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which is in charge of Rahul Gandhi’s protection, has sent several letters about dangers to his safety.
One such letter, which was shockingly sent to Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, was released to the media under odd circumstances, raising serious suspicions about the motivation behind the leak. In light of this, it is not just concerning but completely unacceptable that a BJP spokesperson felt confident enough to make a clear-cut death threat that carries the odour of a broader, evil plot being hatched to justify murder against Rahul Gandhi,” Venugopal stated.
Additionally, he said that several calls for violence and death threats against Gandhi were spread via social media sites supported by or associated with the BJP. It is now your duty to make clear the positions that the administration and your party hold. Do you publicly support the violent, death-threatening, and criminal intimidation politics that are tainting Indian public life?” Venugopal asked.
