ADC flags off awareness vans to sensitise farmers against stubble burning
SAS Nagar, September 27: To raise awareness on stubble burning, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary launched off awareness vans from the District Administrative Complex, Mohali, on Friday.
According to the ADC, this 40-day event would play a significant role in educating farmers about the need of managing paddy straw. She went on to say that paddy stubble is beneficial to farmers and shouldn’t be burned since, when gathered in the field with state-of-the-art machinery, crop residue may significantly improve soil fertility. According to her, burning stubble is bad for the ecology and should be avoided at all costs.
Additionally, she requested that the departments of agriculture, PPCB, cooperative societies, rural development, and panchayats, among others, step up awareness-raising efforts in villages by holding public gatherings, seminars, and public announcements.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, the Punjab government has taken the initiative to provide farmers with cutting-edge equipment for managing their stubble. 28 baler-raker equipment for bundling paddy stubble are among the 1,540 agricultural residue management machinery that the government has so far subsidised in SAS Nagar, she said. For efficient and clean management, she advised farmers to make the most of their utilisation.
In order to protect the ecosystem and soil health for future generations, she emphasised the significance of taking coordinated action to stop stubble burning and urged farmers to use these resources to implement such agricultural practices.
Other representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare were in attendance, including Mr. Kamaldeep Singh, ATM; Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, Junior Technician; and Dr. Gurdial Kumar, Agriculture Development Officer.
