Ladhowal Toll Plaza Remains Toll-Free for 144 Days, Awaiting a New Decision.
It has already been 144 days since the Indian Farmer Labour Union launched the demonstration calling for the Ladhowal Toll Plaza to become toll-free. State President Dilbagh Singh Gill is leading the protest, which is pending a decision from the government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) over the terms and prices of the toll.
The toll plaza has been free for all commuters for the last 144 days, and farmers are now responsible for maintaining a smooth traffic flow. The demonstration will go on until the government and NHAI grant the farmers’ request to lower the toll prices. According to the demonstrators, the government has not yet scheduled a meeting with them. The Union has made it plain that all local commuters within a 20-kilometre radius should be able to use the toll-free route and that other commuters should have their prices drastically lowered.
