Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s condition improves; he is still admitted to the hospital and will chair the cabinet meeting via video conference.

To review and put into effect important policies pertaining to the state’s flood disaster, the Punjab Cabinet is scheduled to convene today. Despite being in the hospital, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will chair the meeting via video conference from Fortis Hospital in Mohali.

A new policy that will permit farmers in flood-affected areas to remove and sell the sand that floodwaters have deposited on their fields is anticipated to be the main topic of the cabinet meeting. The goal of this action is to give farmers who have experienced large crop losses urgent aid.

The chief minister is really worried about the challenges that farmers confront, according to Manish Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, who met Mann at the hospital. The new strategy, dubbed ‘My field, my sand’ (Jiska khet, uski ret), will be unveiled shortly, according to Sisodia. In addition to helping farmers prepare their land for the forthcoming Rabi crop season, this will give them a new revenue stream from the sale of sand for building.

Given that Punjab is experiencing one of its worst floods in decades, the summit will also examine the current relief and rescue efforts. Sisodia is calling for the release of more than ₹60,000 crore in outstanding debts to aid in flood relief efforts, and the state government is also requesting financial support from the federal government.

Following CM Mann’s hospital admission on Friday night due to a weak heartbeat and general weakness, this cabinet meeting was previously postponed. His health is reportedly getting better now, though, and he is resolved to carry on working from the hospital.
