“The Police and Administration Are Ready to Turn Fatehgarh Sahib Into a ‘Paddy Straw Burning Free’ District,” Deputy Commissioner.

  • Special vigilance teams have been formed; SDMs and DSPs will lead the sub-divisions.
  • Progressive farmers who manage stubble will be honoured.

Making Fatehgarh Sahib a “paddy straw burning-free” district is something that the police and district administration are ready to do. Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind made this statement today while meeting with authorities at the District Administrative Complex to talk about ways to stop stubble burning during the next paddy season. Over the previous two years, stubble burning events have significantly decreased due to administrative efforts and strong farmer cooperation; this year, the number of occurrences will be reduced by 100%, she said.

The Deputy Commissioner declared that special vigilance teams, cluster officers and nodal officers are being established in villages to sternly prohibit stubble burning incidents. She directed representatives of the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Cooperative Department, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, and Police Department to begin educating farmers and landowners about the harm stubble burning causes to the environment and “Mother Earth” immediately. She asked them to do their part to put an end to this destructive behaviour.

Additionally, she directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and DSPs in the subdivisions to spearhead this campaign going forward and take the necessary actions to recognise forward-thinking farmers who are successfully controlling stubble. She urged these environmentally conscious farmers to voluntarily maintain appropriate stubble management and serve as role models for others.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh said that a number of machinery, including Happy Seeders, Super Seeders, Smart Seeders, Balers, Rakes, Mulchers, Paddy Chopper Shredders and RMB Plough Harrows, are being given away on a subsidised basis in order to support farmers. Farmers will be consistently motivated to employ these machines.

SDM Fatehgarh Sahib Arvind Kumar Gupta, SDM Khamano Manreet Rana, SDM Bassi Pathana Harveer Kaur, DSP Hartesh Kaushik, District Revenue Officer Karan Gupta, and PPCB Executive Engineer Mohit Singla were among the officials from several departments who attended the meeting.
