High Court notice to Punjab government.

Ganeev Kaur Majithia contests the Vigilance notice in a High Court notice to the Punjab government; the hearing is scheduled for September 26.

Today, Monday, the Mohali court is hearing the bail request of Bikram Singh Majithia, a former minister and leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, who was detained in a Punjab case involving disproportionate assets.

At the same time, the High Court is hearing a petition that his wife, Ganeev Kaur, filed. Ganeev Kaur has contested the notification that the Vigilance Bureau sent her on August 10th, requesting information about her property. The case’s next hearing is scheduled for September.

Why was Majithia arrested from Amritsar?

On June 25, Majithia was taken into custody by the Vigilance Bureau from his Amritsar home in connection with a case involving excessive assets. This time, Himachal, Delhi, and even Uttar Pradesh are now included in the investigation’s scope. While his sugar mill in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and a farmhouse in Delhi are confirmed to exist, his jagir is said to reside in Himachal. The investigation will include materials from these locations. Additionally, the investigation has recorded the statements of six individuals, including former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, whose term saw the NDPS Act case against Majithia be launched. Statements have also been obtained from Niranjan Singh, the former director of the ED, and four other individuals who were once Majithia’s business colleagues.

Majithia is presently being held in Nabha prison in judicial custody. The duties of listening to people’s complaints and managing the affairs of his halqa (constituency) were previously handled by Majithia himself, but they are currently being handled by his wife and MLA Ganeev Kaur. She meets with individuals at the halqa.
