“August 14, New Delhi, India (ANI): On the eve of the 79th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu sent her warmest regards to the country on Thursday. We all take satisfaction in the fact that every Indian celebrates Independence Day and Republic Day with great fervour. President Murmu began her speech by stating, “These are days that especially remind us of our being proud Indians.”

We must remember the suffering caused by the nation’s partition when we reflect on the past. Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas was observed today. Millions were displaced as a result of Partition, and horrific bloodshed was observed. We honour the victims of historical folly today,” President Murmu stated. ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ is observed on August 14 in India in remembrance of people who were killed and displaced during the 1947 partition of the country.

India was split into the separate nation-states of India and Pakistan with the British withdrawal from the country in August 1947. Millions of people on the Indian subcontinent have been devastated by the country’s division. Riots, disturbances, bloodshed, hostility, rapes, killings, looting, famine, and one of the biggest forced mass migrations in history were all part of it. During terrible days and nights, millions of people experienced tremendous loss. The provinces of Bengal and Punjab have had to cope with the aftermath of the terrible riots that left thousands dead and millions more with irreparable emotional scars. Even now, people still suffer from the pain and effects of the partition. The President also underlined that despite the difficulties the country encountered after gaining independence, the Indian people managed to effectively transition to establishing the country’s democratic status. Following our return to independence, we also established a democracy with universal adult suffrage. Stated differently, the Indian populace granted each individual the ability to determine their own fate, free from the limitations imposed by gender, religion, and other considerations that prevented many individuals from exercising their right to vote in other democracies. Despite numerous obstacles, the Indian populace successfully transitioned to democracy. “Our ancient democratic ethos was naturally reflected in the transition,” President Murmu stated.

India was home to the world’s oldest republics. With good reason, it is known as the mother of democracy. The Constitution, which we ratified, established the framework for democracy. The democratic practice was reinforced by the democratic institutions we established. We value our democracy and our Constitution above all things,” she stated. “August 15th is a date that is ingrained in our collective memory. Generations of Indians looked forward to the day of independence during the protracted colonial rule. The desire to free themselves from the burden of foreign control was strong among men and women, young and old, from all over the nation. The strong optimism that characterised their battle has also fuelled our advancement since independence.

Tomorrow, as we salute the tricolour, we will remember all the freedom fighters who gave their lives to secure India’s independence 78 years ago,” President Murmu said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the country’s 79th Independence Day celebrations from the renowned Red Fort in the city on August 15, 2025.The prime minister will speak to the country from the famous monument’s ramparts while raising the national flag. The celebrations this year will have Naya Bharat as the theme, as the country is making enormous progress in achieving the government’s objective of Viksit Bharat by 2047.The festivities will provide a forum for remembering the ongoing ascent of a prosperous, safe, and fearless New Bharat and will give people new strength to push forward on the path to development.
