Action Ordered Against Punjab Inspector for Assaulting Guard, Court Hearing Today

The Punjab Police Inspector Jaspreet Singh is facing serious legal action after he allegedly assaulted an on-duty security guard during the court appearance of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets case.

The incident took place on July 6, 2025, at the Mohali court complex. Inspector Jaspreet Singh reportedly got into an argument with guard Baljit Singh, who refused to unlock a gate without a court order. In response, the inspector forcibly snatched the keys from the guard and physically assaulted him. The matter was immediately brought to the attention of Senior Civil Judge Anish Goyal, who ordered a medical examination for the injured guard.

Although guard Baljit Singh initially declined to take action, the court treated the matter as a crime against the state. After reviewing CCTV footage and hearing the complaint filed by the court reader the judge remarked that the assault on a government employee while on duty had criminal elements and could not be ignored or settled privately.

The court has now directed the Sohana Police Station to register a formal FIR against Inspector Jaspreet Singh under sections 115(2), 132, 221, 304 and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The court is closely monitoring the case and has clearly stated that no leniency will be tolerated. A fresh hearing on the matter is scheduled for today during which the Punjab Police will have to explain the steps taken and the specific legal provisions invoked in the case.
