Soldiers from Punjab Martyred in Ladakh Landslide, Final Farewell with Full Military Honors Today

Two brave soldiers from Punjab lost their lives while serving the country in the difficult terrain of Ladakh. Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh from Pathankot and Naik Daljeet Singh from Shamsherpur village in Gurdaspur were martyred on Wednesday morning after a landslide hit their army vehicle.

The accident happened around 11:30 AM when the army convoy was moving from Durbuk to Chongtash. As the convoy reached KM 74 a big rock fell on one of the army trucks. Naik Daljeet Singh was driving the vehicle at that time. The truck was badly damaged.

Three other army officers  Major Mayank Shubham (14 Sikh Horse), Major Amit Dikshit and Captain Gaurav (60 Armoured)  were injured and are being treated at the 153 General Hospital in Leh.

The news of the accident has left the villages of Pathankot and Shamsherpur in deep sorrow. People in Shamsherpur remember Daljeet Singh as someone who loved his country since childhood and had always wanted to join the army. He had been serving in Ladakh for many years.

Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh had recently been promoted in June. His family and neighbors in Pathankot are heartbroken by the loss.

Both soldiers’ mortal remains will arrive today at the Pathankot Airbase. From there, Bhanu Pratap Singh will be taken to his home in Pathankot and Daljeet Singh will be taken to his native village Shamsherpur. Their last rites will be performed with full military honors.
