On the eighth day of the monsoon session in Parliament, Jalandhar MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi raised key issues concerning the Jalandhar Cantonment area.
Channi spoke about the Idgah (prayer site) that has been used by the Muslim community since 1909. He said the land for the Idgah was donated, but a notice was recently sent asking them to vacate the site. This has deeply hurt the local Muslim community. He urged the central government to take quick action and ensure that the community’s right to offer prayers is protected.
Channi also highlighted two more issues:
1. Residents living in the cantonment area are facing problems with land registration. People who have been given land are unable to register it officially. He asked the government to solve this issue soon.
2. A periphery road is supposed to be built around the cantonment area. For this, land from 13 nearby villages was to be acquired. Channi asked the government to begin the road construction quickly, as it would help both the army and local residents.
He requested Parliament to look into these matters urgently and provide relief to the people of Jalandhar.
