CM Mann Slams Amarinder Singh Over Support for Bikram Majithia

A day after former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh accused the AAP government of targeting Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly responded.

Mann called Amarinder Singh “double-faced” on the issue of drugs in Punjab. He reminded Singh of his 2017 election promise to end the drug problem within four weeks and questioned his concern for the rights of drug smugglers.

“You are now worried about the human rights of drug smugglers? During your rule, when youth were dying because of drugs, you did nothing,” Mann posted on social media platform X.

Amarinder Singh had earlier said that the AAP government is using political revenge and harsh tactics instead of good governance. He accused the government of arresting critics, crushing protests and being controlled by leaders in Delhi.

He also called the action against Majithia “political persecution” and claimed that Punjab is facing a threat to democracy.

Without naming Amarinder directly, Mann responded that the people of Punjab now see the truth but it’s unfortunate that it took so long. He also suggested that the BJP Amarinder’s current party may dismiss his statement as a personal opinion.

Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested last month by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly having assets worth ₹540 crore linked to drug money. He is currently in judicial custody until August 2.
