Mohali Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kulwant Singh has suddenly resigned from the post of Secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). He stepped down just a few days after taking charge citing personal reasons. Now the association must elect a new secretary within the next 15 days.
Kulwant Singh is well-known in politics but was new to cricket administration. According to his 2022 election affidavit he is one of Punjab’s richest MLAs with assets worth ₹251 crore. Earlier he was associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance but won the 2022 assembly election on an AAP ticket.
He was nominated as secretary under the ‘Representatives and Institutions’ category. His appointment came at a time when all three top PCA posts president, vice-president and secretary were filled unopposed by AAP-supported candidates. The official announcement of the new body was made on July 12 after completing all election formalities.
Kulwant Singh was the first PCA secretary without any strong cricket background. However he has major business investments around the newly built Mullanpur Stadium. His sudden resignation has sparked discussions not only in the cricket world but also in political circles.
Meanwhile PCA President Amarjit Singh and Vice President Deepak Bali have not yet commented on the matter.
