Pargat Singh Accuses Amarinder, AAP, and BJP of Delaying Sacrilege Probe

Former Punjab Congress vice-president Pargat Singh on Tuesday said that the Congress removed Capt Amarinder Singh from the Chief Minister’s post because he had made a secret deal with the Badal family to delay the investigation into the 2015 sacrilege incidents.

He said that when Charanjit Singh Channi became the CM, there was not enough time left in the Congress government’s term to take the probe to its conclusion, but still efforts were made.

Pargat Singh also challenged current CM Bhagwant Mann to explain why there has been a delay in action against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the sacrilege cases. These incidents happened in 2015 at Bargari and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala gurdwaras in Faridkot when the SAD-BJP government was in power.

He accused Amarinder Singh, who is now with the BJP, of going soft on the case and said the Channi government questioned the dera chief three times and even named him in a supplementary chargesheet.

Pargat claimed the AAP government has done nothing meaningful in the last three years, except passing a law on sacrilege. He also accused Sukhbir Badal of politicising the issue and said the BJP and AAP worked together to protect the dera chief. He demanded the CM clarify the current status of the case and alleged that the cases were shifted outside Punjab as part of a conspiracy.
