Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigns as Vice President of India

Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, has resigned from his post, citing health reasons. His sudden decision surprised many and sparked wide speculation in political circles.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to wish Dhankhar good health. “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health,” the PM wrote.

Sources say that the official reason for Dhankhar’s resignation is poor health, which he mentioned in his letter to President Droupadi Murmu. Dhankhar had undergone angioplasty at AIIMS New Delhi in March to treat a blockage in his arteries. Since then, his health had been weak. He recently fainted during a visit to Nainital and had started giving speeches while seated.

Despite his health issues, Dhankhar chaired the first day of the Monsoon Session in Parliament. During the session, he also announced that a motion had been received from 63 Members of Parliament to remove Justice Yashwant Varma, who is involved in a cash scandal.

His resignation marks the end of his term as the second-highest constitutional officer in the country.
