Sukhbir Badal Demands Action Against Kejriwal, AAP Ministers Over Sacrilege Case

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has demanded a case be filed against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly trying to protect party MLA Naresh Yadav, who was recently convicted in a case involving the sacrilege of the Quran.

Badal accused Kejriwal of supporting Yadav by nominating him again as AAP’s candidate from Mehrauli in the Delhi Assembly elections. He also asked that AAP ministers Harpal Cheema and Harjot Bains be removed from their posts for defending Yadav.

Badal claimed that the involvement of AAP in sacrilege cases started when the party became active in Punjab politics. He called for a probe into the 2015 sacrilege cases, monitored by the Supreme Court or High Court, saying he believes AAP’s role will be revealed.

He also appealed to Congress leaders Pargat Singh and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa to reveal the names of Congress members who allegedly protected those involved in sacrilege during their party’s rule. He said if they do not name them, it would suggest they were also involved.

Badal said that these sacrilege incidents were politically motivated and meant to harm the SAD, which was focused on development. He pointed to the Malerkotla case and recent efforts by the AAP government to influence the court by trying to withdraw the complaint against Yadav—just 12 days before his conviction—as further proof.

He asked, “Can anyone trust a party that tries to save someone guilty of disrespecting a holy book?”
