Rajasthan has seen very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, leading to flood-like conditions in cities like Ajmer, Pushkar, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Pali, officials said on Saturday.
Many villages are now cut off because rivers, drains, and dams are overflowing. In Tonk district, 17 people were stuck in the Banas River near Golera village on Friday night but were rescued safely by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
In Ajmer, strong water flow in the Dargah area swept away several people, but local residents helped rescue them. A weak house in Lakhan Kotdi collapsed on Saturday morning, but luckily, the family had already left the house after spotting cracks.
Ajmer’s Ana Sagar Lake is overflowing because of the rain. Locals are using sandbags to control the water. According to city officials, waterlogging is happening due to the overflow, and the lake’s gates have been opened.
The weather department said Rajasthan has received 126% more rainfall than normal since the monsoon began on June 1.
Weather expert Radhey Shyam Sharma said the rain is caused by a depression over eastern Rajasthan, which is now weakening. On Saturday, very heavy rain is likely in the Jodhpur area, and heavy rain is also expected in parts of Ajmer and Udaipur. Rainfall may reduce in areas like Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, and Bikaner.
From Sunday, the rain across the state is expected to decrease, giving people some relief. However, another round of heavy rainfall could return to eastern Rajasthan around July 27–28.
In the last 24 hours (till 8:30 am Saturday), the highest rainfall was recorded in:
Nainwa (Bundi) – 234 mm
Merta City (Nagaur) – 230 mm
Mangliawas (Ajmer) – 190 mm
