Anandpur Sahib, the holy city where the Khalsa was founded, will soon get a beautiful new heritage street. The Punjab government has decided to build it like the famous Heritage Street in Amritsar, which leads to the Golden Temple. This new street will be made to honour Sikh history and to mark 350 years since the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru.
The heritage street will be built on the main road going to Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the five holy Takhts in Sikhism. The shops and buildings along the street will be redesigned to match the spiritual and cultural history of the city.
Ropar’s Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Singh Walia confirmed the news. He said most shopkeepers along the road have agreed to the changes, which is very important for the project. The design will try to bring the same look and feel as Amritsar’s Heritage Street, which is loved by tourists and pilgrims.
There is also another plan to improve the road from Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Shehganj Sahib, another important Sikh place in the city.
The Deputy Commissioner said Anandpur Sahib is more than just a city — it is the heart of Sikh history. He said the government wants to present its heritage in a respectful and attractive way to people from all over the world.
Once the work begins, the new heritage street will improve the spiritual atmosphere of Anandpur Sahib and make it even more popular with tourists and pilgrims.
