Ranjit Singh Gill a well-known realtor from Kharar’s Gillco Valley, has resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He was the party’s halqa incharge for Kharar and a close aide of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Gill said he was unhappy with the recent appointment of party office bearers and felt that the contributions of his workers were being ignored. He also said outsiders were getting more influence in the Kharar unit, which upset local workers. It is the will of the people of Kharar. I am only following it, he added.
Gill had contested Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022, but lost both times. In the last election, he lost to AAP’s Anmol Gagan Mann by a big margin.
In December 2022, the Income Tax Department had raided Gill’s home and office in Gillco Valley.
Sources say Gill may join a national party soon, with BJP being the likely option. However, Gill has not confirmed whether he will join a party or contest as an independent candidate.
Gill began his real estate career in Rupnagar in 1990 and later set up the Gillco Valley township in Kharar. He is also working on projects on Airport Road and IT City in Mohali.
