Punjab Government Forms Committees to Boost Industrial Growth

In a major step to bring new industry policies, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has decided to form special committees for different industries. This move is meant to speed up industrial development in the state.

Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora said that 22 committees will be formed. Each one will be led by an expert from that specific industry. These committees will suggest what kind of financial and non-financial support their industry needs from the government.

Three committees will focus only on the textile sector. Others will work on industries like auto and auto parts, electric vehicles, sports goods, medicines, agri-food processing, and more.

The committees have been asked to give their suggestions within 45 days so that the government can quickly launch a new Industrial Policy.

This move comes after the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022, which aimed to make doing business easier but did not bring in the expected investments.

To fix this, the government started the Punjab Udyog Kranti earlier this year. This initiative promises business approvals within 45 days, a single-window online system, and strong support for small businesses and startups. It focuses on 14 manufacturing sectors and 7 service sectors.
