Bajwa Slams Government for Rushing Sacrilege Bill Without Proper Review

On Monday, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa criticised the Punjab government for rushing the discussion on the new anti-sacrilege Bill without giving enough time to study it.

Speaking to reporters, Bajwa said the draft of the Bill was given to Opposition parties just minutes before the scheduled discussion in the Assembly.

“This is not the right way to handle such an important matter, especially one that affects Punjab’s religious and social values,” he said.

Bajwa, who is from the Congress party, said they are fully against acts of sacrilege. However, he stressed that the law must be properly written, sincere, and carefully examined by all parties before being passed.
