Draft Bill on Harsher Punishment for Sacrilege to Be Discussed by Punjab Cabinet

The Punjab government will discuss a new draft Bill on Monday morning that proposes stricter punishment for sacrilege cases.

If the Council of Ministers approves the draft, it will be presented in the Assembly. According to sources, the Bill suggests a separate law by the state government, with up to 10 years of jail for anyone found guilty of sacrilege.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier said the new law would not be passed immediately. First, it will be discussed with the public, religious leaders, and other important groups. A special committee will collect their opinions before moving forward.
