Monsoon to Slow Down from July 18; Himachal Suffers ₹751 Crore Loss from Rain-Related Disasters

After causing widespread damage in Himachal Pradesh, the monsoon is expected to become weaker from July 18 onwards.

The Meteorological Department says that light to moderate rain will continue in most parts of the state. Some areas, especially the plains and hills, may still get heavy rain, but overall rainfall is expected to be below normal between July 18 and July 24.

Until July 18, heavy rain is likely to continue, so a yellow weather warning has been issued for several districts.

In the past 24 hours, heavy rain was recorded in many places. Murari Devi in Mandi district got the highest rainfall at 130 mm, followed by 110 mm in Aghar (Hamirpur), 80 mm in Pandoh, 53.2 mm in Mandi town, 47.6 mm in Bhuntar (Kullu), 35 mm in Sarahan, 30.4 mm in Sundernagar, 23 mm in Manali, and smaller amounts in other places like Kangra, Narkanda, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Dharamshala.

So far, the state has suffered a loss of ₹751.95 crore due to 31 flash floods, 22 cloudbursts, and 18 landslides caused by heavy rain.

Currently, 252 roads are closed — 203 in Mandi, 25 in Kullu, 13 in Kangra, 4 in Sirmour, 3 in Una, and 2 in Hamirpur.

In addition, 327 power transformers have been damaged — most of them in Hamirpur, Mandi, and Solan districts.

Water supply has also been affected. A total of 787 water schemes are disrupted — 612 in Kangra and 175 in Mandi.
