A day after a bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, killing 13 people, the Congress party strongly criticized the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called the government “incompetent” and accused it of being full of corruption and leadership failure. He said that the BJP is more focused on giving speeches and running ads instead of actually governing the country.
The bridge, which was 39 years old, collapsed near Mujpur village on Wednesday. Six vehicles fell into the Mahi river, killing 13 people. This accident reminded many of the tragic Morbi bridge collapse in 2022, where 135 people died.
Kharge said this is the seventh bridge collapse in Gujarat since 2021 and added that such accidents are happening too often in the country — whether it’s a train crash, a plane crash, or a newly inaugurated bridge breaking apart.
He also mentioned that there were reports of dangerous vibrations in the bridge earlier, but the government did not take any action.
