Punjab and Haryana High Court Gives Bikram Majithia Three Weeks to Amend Petition

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has given former cabinet minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia three weeks to make changes to his petition challenging his arrest and judicial remand.

Majithia is currently in judicial custody at Nabha jail until July 19. He was arrested on June 25 after an FIR was registered against him by the Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In his petition, Majithia claimed that the case was politically motivated. He said his arrest was part of a campaign of “political vendetta” by the current government because he is a vocal critic and opponent.

He also argued that the FIR and his arrest were both illegal and did not follow proper legal procedures. His lawyers – Sartej Singh Narula, Damanbir Singh Sobti, and Arshdeep Singh Cheema – filed the petition shortly after the FIR was registered.

Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya heard the case and scheduled the next hearing for July 29.
