Patiala Doctor Faces Inquiry Over Alleged Negligence in Child’s Death

The Punjab Health Department has launched an inquiry against a woman doctor at Mata Kaushalya Hospital in Patiala after allegations of medical negligence linked to the death of a two-year-old girl suffering from diarrhoea.

The action follows claims by a woman who said the doctor delayed treatment while sitting and having tea with hospital staff. The case came to light during Health Minister Balbir Singh’s visit to Allipur Arian on Sunday, where a diarrhoea outbreak has already claimed two lives and made at least 70 residents sick.

During the visit, local resident Prem Lata told the minister that her niece, Chandni, could have survived if the doctor had acted quickly. “I begged the doctor to treat her, but she asked me to wait. By the time she responded, my niece had died,” she alleged.

Prem Lata also lost her 70-year-old mother, Tara Devi, to the same outbreak on June 28. Her niece died on July 1.

In response, the Health Minister ordered an official inquiry and asked that CCTV footage from the hospital be reviewed. Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh confirmed the inquiry is underway but said there is no clear evidence yet that medical negligence caused the child’s death.
