Israeli Airstrikes and Aid Shootings Kill 35 in Gaza as Ceasefire Talks Continue

On Friday, Israeli airstrikes killed 15 people in Gaza, including 8 women and a child. At the same time, 20 more people were shot and killed while waiting for aid, according to Nasser Hospital in Gaza.

Two of those killed were near aid distribution sites in Rafah, while 18 others were waiting for supply trucks in southern Gaza.

These tragic events happened as peace efforts to stop the 21-month-long war between Israel and Hamas are showing some progress.

Hamas announced on Friday that it is discussing a new ceasefire plan with other Palestinian groups. The plan was suggested by Egypt and Qatar, who are acting as mediators.

Earlier, Donald Trump said that Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire deal and called on Hamas to accept it soon. Hamas said it will respond to the proposal after all discussions are complete.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports that more than 57,000 Palestinians have died since the war began. They say over half of the victims are women and children. However, the ministry does not separate the number of civilians from fighters in its data.

The war started when Hamas fighters attacked southern Israel in October 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.

Since May, many people in Gaza have been injured or killed while trying to reach aid points. Palestinian witnesses say Israeli troops opened fire, but the Israeli military says they only fired warning shots and are investigating the reports of civilian deaths.
