The number of people who died in the explosion at Sigachi Industries’ pharma plant in Sangareddy district has increased to 39. One more injured person died while receiving treatment in the hospital, according to Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj.
The person had suffered severe burns in the incident. As of Friday morning, 22 people are still being treated in hospitals.
According to an official statement, 143 workers were present at the plant when the accident happened. Out of them, 61 were found safe. Twelve injured workers have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, but nine people are still missing.
The bodies of 31 workers who died in the blast have been identified. A team of experts appointed by the state government visited the site on Thursday to find out the cause of the explosion and understand how it happened.
