Sukhpal Khaira Meets Suspended AAP MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap, Slams AAP Leadership

Senior Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira visited the home of suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh on Thursday, expressing solidarity and support amid growing tensions within the AAP.

While the meeting raised speculation about Kunwar Vijay Pratap possibly switching to the Congress, both leaders called it a “personal visit.” However, in a joint media interaction, the two strongly criticized AAP’s leadership, particularly party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Khaira accused AAP of straying from its founding ideals. “The party once claimed to fight corruption, but today its own leaders are facing charges and going to jail. MLAs are buying properties and building massive farmhouses — including one who was once showcased as a humble mobile phone repair mechanic,” he said.

He added that Kunwar Vijay Pratap was suspended simply for “speaking the truth,” and claimed that AAP consistently punishes honest voices while tarnishing their reputations.

On the possibility of Kunwar joining Congress, Khaira clarified, “This isn’t the right time. He’s an elected representative of the people of Amritsar and should continue serving them.”

Kunwar Vijay Pratap also shared his side of the story, recalling that he had no political ambitions when he resigned from the police service. “Kejriwal and Raghav Chadha personally requested me to join AAP, promising justice in the Guru Granth Sahib desecration and Bargari firing cases. That’s why I agreed.”

He said his suspension was labeled as an act of indiscipline, but blamed AAP for lacking any real discipline itself. “I didn’t support Majithia. I only raised questions about the flawed way the government handled the case,” he explained.

The meeting and public criticism come at a time when internal unrest in the AAP’s Punjab unit is becoming more visible, with growing dissatisfaction among some of its key members.
