Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjeev Arora has resigned from the Rajya Sabha after winning the Ludhiana (West) Assembly seat in Punjab. He handed over his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the Constitution, a person cannot be a member of both Parliament and a state assembly at the same time. Since the official notification of the Ludhiana bypoll result was issued on June 24, he had 14 days to resign from one of the positions.

Arora had been a Rajya Sabha MP for nearly three years. In his resignation letter, he thanked the people of Punjab, his fellow MPs, and the Rajya Sabha Chairman for their support. He said it was an honour to serve in the Rajya Sabha and take part in the law-making process of the country.
