India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has said that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam was an act of economic warfare. He said the goal was to destroy tourism in Kashmir, which is a major part of the local economy. He also mentioned that the attackers tried to create religious tension by asking people about their religion before killing them.
Speaking in New York at the One World Trade Center, Jaishankar said that India will not let terrorists go unpunished just because they are on the other side of the border. He also made it clear that India will not be afraid of nuclear threats from Pakistan and will take action if attacked.
He revealed that India carried out Operation Sindoor to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He said these terrorists are not hiding; they have their main offices in cities in Pakistan and everyone knows where these buildings are.
Jaishankar added that India has suffered many terror attacks from Pakistan for decades, including the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attack. He said that the world should treat terrorism as a global problem and should not support or fund such acts under any excuse.
He also opened an exhibition at the United Nations called “The Human Cost of Terrorism,” which showed the damage caused by terrorism around the world.
In a Q\&A session, Jaishankar responded to former US President Donald Trump’s claim that he used trade talks to stop a conflict between India and Pakistan. Jaishankar said that trade negotiations are handled professionally and have not been affected by such claims. He also shared that when Pakistan threatened to attack India, Prime Minister Modi remained firm and gave a strong reply. The next day, Pakistan showed interest in talking, proving India’s strong stand worked.
Jaishankar’s message was clear: India will defend itself, will not be blackmailed, and there will be no mercy for terrorists.
