Congress Accepts Resignations of Punjab Leaders After Ludhiana Bypoll Loss

The Congress party has accepted the resignations of three senior leaders from Punjab — Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Pargat Singh, and Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon — after the party’s poor performance in the Ludhiana Assembly by-election.

Ashu, who was the Congress candidate in the bypoll, lost to AAP’s Sanjeev Arora by more than 10,000 votes. The loss has been blamed on internal factionalism within the party.

Bhupesh Baghel, the Congress in-charge for Punjab, announced the acceptance of their resignations on X (formerly Twitter) and thanked the leaders for their service.

A report on the Ludhiana bypoll has also been submitted by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee to the party’s central leadership. According to sources, the report blames infighting and poor coordination for the defeat.

The report says that only a few leaders handled the campaign and kept the top state leadership out. Some new leaders were added to the party during the campaign without approval from the high command, which caused more confusion and weakened the party’s position.

Some senior leaders have also criticized Bhupesh Baghel for not resolving the party’s internal disputes before the election.
