Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader of the SAD party, was sent to seven days of police custody on Thursday in a corruption case. The court gave this order after Majithia appeared, about two and a half hours after he arrived at the court.
The Vigilance Bureau arrested Majithia from his home in Amritsar on Wednesday and took him to Mohali in the evening. Officials said that Majithia owns properties worth around Rs 540 crore, which is much more than what he could have earned between 2007 and 2012.
Due to heavy police presence and barricades, work at the court and nearby offices was disrupted on Thursday morning. The area looked almost empty, as visitors were stopped from entering because of the security measures.
