Raja Warring Blames AAP-BJP ‘Secret Deal’ for Congress Loss in Ludhiana West Bypoll

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has dismissed claims that infighting within the Congress caused the party’s loss in the Ludhiana (West) Assembly bypoll. He instead accused the AAP and BJP of having a secret understanding to defeat the Congress.

“The Congress didn’t lose because of internal fights,” Warring said. “We lost because the ruling AAP and BJP teamed up against us behind the scenes.”

His remarks came a day after Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu lost the bypoll to AAP’s Sanjeev Arora by over 10,000 votes, while BJP’s Jiwan Gupta came in third.

Warring also claimed that the BJP shifted its vote base to AAP, which helped boost AAP’s performance. He pointed out that the BJP’s vote share dropped from 41% in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to just 22%, while AAP’s vote share nearly doubled from 20% to 39%. Congress, he said, retained its vote share at about 27%.

He criticized the media for what he called a “media trial” of the Congress, questioning why AAP leaders Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal weren’t held accountable for not campaigning on the final day.

Warring, who is also the Ludhiana Lok Sabha MP, said senior leaders including former CM Charanjit Singh Channi had worked hard during the campaign. He also defended his own role, explaining that as state Congress chief, he had other responsibilities laid out by the AICC, including “Save Constitution” campaigns and grassroots outreach.
