A day after some “inappropriate” posts appeared on the official X account (formerly Twitter) of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), the weather department confirmed on Sunday that the account had been hacked.
The issue came to light after PTI alerted the IMD on Saturday evening. The department acted swiftly, deleting the unauthorized reposts and launching an internal probe.
In an official statement, the IMD said, “RWFC New Delhi’s X handle was hacked on Saturday and some inappropriate posts were made. Corrective actions have been taken, and the matter is under further investigation.”
Authorities are now working to secure the account and trace the source of the breach.
