All Eyes on Ludhiana West as Bypoll Results Could Shape Punjab’s Political Future

People in Ludhiana West are eagerly waiting for the results of a crucial by-election, with vote counting set for Monday. The outcome is expected to have a big impact on Punjab politics, especially with the next Assembly elections coming up in 2027.

The bypoll was called after the sudden passing of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. Now, the seat has become a major battleground between four big parties — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, BJP, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

AAP has chosen Sanjeev Arora, a businessman and Rajya Sabha MP, as its candidate. He’s an important player in AAP’s Punjab plans. If he wins, it could open the door for party leader Arvind Kejriwal to enter the Rajya Sabha. Arora said, “I’ve done my part sincerely. Now it’s up to the voters. No matter what happens, I’ll continue working for Ludhiana’s development.”

The Congress party has put forward experienced leader and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu. He hopes his past work and strong local support will help bring the party back to power in the area. “We ran a clean campaign focused on people’s issues. I believe voters will choose experience and responsibility,” Ashu said.

The BJP, seeing a rise in support in Punjab’s cities, has nominated Jiwan Gupta, a businessman known among local traders. He believes the BJP’s national work has built trust. “People in Ludhiana see that. We’ve talked about real concerns like business and good governance,” Gupta shared.

Meanwhile, SAD is relying on Parupkar Singh Ghuman, who focused on door-to-door outreach and building local connections. He hopes this election will mark a new start for the party. “Whatever the result, I believe in the people and in democracy,” he said.

As the results day approaches, the mood in Ludhiana is one of curiosity and excitement, with everyone waiting to see which direction the voters will take.
