After Murdering Influencer, Suspects Visited Shrine Before Arrest: Police

After allegedly murdering Ludhiana-based social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, on June 10, two of the suspects — Jaspreet Singh and Nimaratjeet Singh — visited a religious shrine at Talwandi Sabo to pay their respects, sources revealed.

Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal confirmed that the two also traveled through Kharar and Mohali before being arrested on June 13. They are now in judicial custody.

During police questioning, Jaspreet and Nimaratjeet claimed they did not know the whereabouts of the main accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron. “They said Amritpal told them to run after the murder and promised to help later. It’s still unclear whether they were misled or genuinely unaware of his location,” said SSP Kondal.

Kanchan’s decomposed body was discovered in the back seat of a parked car near Adesh University on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway on the night of June 11.

Police say the murder appears to be a case of moral policing. A lookout notice has been issued for Amritpal, who reportedly fled to the UAE just hours after the crime, and for his alleged accomplice Ranjit Singh from Sohal village in Tarn Taran district. Another suspect remains unidentified.

The investigation is ongoing.
