Mortal Remains of Co-Pilot Clive Kunder Brought Home to Mumbai for Final Farewell

The mortal remains of First Officer Clive Kunder, the co-pilot of the Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad last week, were brought to his family home in Mumbai on Thursday morning, officials confirmed.

The casket carrying the remains arrived at Mumbai airport and was then taken by family members to his residence on Ram Mandir Road in Goregaon (West). Kunder, who was only in his twenties, lived there with his elderly parents and younger sister.

According to officials, the body will be kept at the family home till 1 PM for friends, neighbours, and well-wishers to pay their last respects, after which the final rites will be conducted at the Sewri Christian Cemetery.

Kunder was co-piloting Air India flight AI-171, which was en route to London when it crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing all but one of the 242 passengers and crew on board, as well as 29 people on the ground, after the aircraft slammed into a medical complex.

The ill-fated flight was commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who had 8,200 hours of flying experience, while First Officer Kunder had logged 1,100 hours, as per a statement by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The last rites of Captain Sabharwal, a resident of Powai, were held earlier this week on Tuesday.

The tragic crash has sent shockwaves through the aviation community and the nation. Tributes continue to pour in for the brave crew who lost their lives in the line of duty.
