A man named Amritpal Singh Mehron, who calls himself a protector of Sikh values, has claimed responsibility for the shocking murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari.
In a video shared online on Friday, Mehron accused Kanchan of spreading vulgar content while using the sacred surname “Kaur”, which he said disrespected Sikh traditions. “Khalsa never attacks women, but if someone mocks our religion and Takhts, they must face consequences,” he said.
Mehron warned other content creators to delete “indecent” videos within 2-3 days and demanded public apologies. “If not, they will see what happens,” he threatened. He specifically named another influencer from Amritsar, Deepika Luthra, in his video.
Deepika, who looked visibly disturbed, approached the police seeking protection. She said she had already deleted her controversial videos months ago and had been made to apologise on camera multiple times, yet is still being targeted.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar assured that Deepika’s safety would be ensured and said the video was under investigation.
Mehron has a history of encouraging violence, especially in cases related to religious sentiments. He also claimed that Kanchan had once apologised to him and that he even helped her financially during her father’s illness.
After his threatening video went viral, several other influencers began posting apology videos online. A group running the page Pendu Jatt Records Official also deleted their videos and asked for forgiveness.
This isn’t the first time social media creators have faced threats. In a similar incident earlier, Sehaj Arora and Gurpreet Kaur, known as the Kulhad Pizza couple from Jalandhar, were threatened by a Nihang group for allegedly posting objectionable content.
As fear spreads among online influencers, police are now under pressure to take strong action and ensure people’s safety in both the real and digital worlds.
