In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl has allegedly killed her fiancé, also 17, with a baseball bat and then buried his body in the compound of her house. The crime took place just a week after the couple got engaged. The girl’s mother is accused of helping her hide the body.
Police are calling it a “cold-blooded murder.” The case has shocked the entire city and is being widely discussed. The body was dug up by the police today and sent for post-mortem examination.
A murder case has been filed against nine people at the Civil Lines police station. So far, two people have been arrested. The girl and several others are still on the run.
Senior Superintendent of Police Suhail Qasim Mir said the girl’s mother, Charanjit Kaur, admitted during questioning that she helped her daughter bury the body.
The victim, Sahil Masih, was a schoolmate of the girl. He left home on June 1 to meet his fiancée and never returned. The girl lived very close to Sahil’s house, on Bhullar Road.
At first, Sahil’s mother, Baby, didn’t suspect anything was wrong. “He had told me he would be back in a few days,” she said. But after days passed without any news, she went to the girl’s house. There, she noticed a terrible smell and called the police.
Police questioned Charanjit Kaur, who eventually confessed. The girl and her mother had already dug an 8-foot-deep pit in their yard.
Officials exhumed Sahil’s body in the presence of Tehsildar Satnam Singh and senior police officers.
Sahil’s grandfather, Yunus Masih, said he had given his grandson Rs 1.25 lakh for some personal work. Sahil gave that money to the girl. When he later asked for it back, she allegedly planned to kill him.
Yunus also said that before the engagement, their family told the girl’s family that they were Christians and asked if they were okay with an inter-caste marriage. The girl’s family reportedly had no objections and agreed to the engagement.
Police continue to search for the girl and the remaining accused as investigations continue.
