Information obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) application has revealed that Haryana has completed only 18.89% of its housing target under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) since the scheme’s relaunch in 2015. The state was assigned a target of 67,649 houses, but only 12,781 have been constructed so far. An additional 15,845 houses are reportedly under construction, with no clear completion timeline.
The scheme aims to provide affordable housing to poor urban residents, especially those below the poverty line (BPL). Haryana has received Rs 570.07 crore over nine years for this purpose. However, delays and administrative hurdles have hampered smooth implementation, affecting the timely delivery of benefits to eligible residents, according to Subhash, state coordinator of the Haryana Soochna Adhikar Manch, who filed the RTI.
