Punjab Police Crack Down on Espionage Network, 16 Arrested Across 4 States in ISI-Linked Operation

In a major counter-espionage crackdown, the Punjab Police have arrested 10 individuals within the state and helped in the arrest of six more across Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the past month, all allegedly connected to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.

The most recent arrest took place earlier today in Ropar, where Jasbir Singh alias Jaan Mahal was taken into custody. He is believed to be a close associate of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, also known as Jyoti Rani, who was arrested in Haryana based on Punjab Police intelligence. Investigators are examining links between Jyoti and six previously arrested individuals in Punjab.

The operation, which relied heavily on both human intelligence and technical surveillance, is part of a wider effort by Punjab Police in coordination with central agencies and other state forces to dismantle what officials describe as an expanding espionage network aiding Pakistan’s ISI.

The six arrested outside Punjab include:

  • Jyoti Rani (alias Jyoti Malhotra), Nauman Ilahi, and Devinder Singh in Haryana

  • Maulvi Kasim and Asim in Rajasthan

  • Abhishek Bhardwaj in Himachal Pradesh

In Punjab, notable arrests include:

  • Gagandeep Singh from Tarn Taran on June 3

  • Jasbir Singh from Ropar today

  • Guzala and Yameen Mohammad from Malerkotla on May 8 for allegedly leaking military information to a Pakistan-based official at the High Commission in New Delhi

  • Neeraj Kumar from Pathankot on May 12, caught for issuing fraudulent SIM cards—one of which was found active in Pakistan

  • Rakib, a tailor from Bathinda Cantonment, accused of possessing sensitive military documents and receiving messages from Pakistani numbers

  • Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh from Gurdaspur for allegedly leaking strategic information related to Operation Sindoor and troop movements in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir

Authorities have confirmed that additional suspects are under close surveillance as the investigation continues to uncover the full extent of ISI’s infiltration attempts.

A senior Punjab Police officer said, “This is not just a regional issue—it’s a national security threat. Real-time intelligence and inter-state cooperation have been crucial in exposing and disrupting this espionage network.”
