Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone for the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park and several other development projects worth Rs 100 crore in Dehra, Kangra district.
Speaking at the event, CM Sukhu said these projects will boost the all-round development of the region. “Who says ‘Dehra koi nahi tera’? After a few years, this area will be known for tourism,” he said. He added that a safari will be set up soon, and the zoo, costing Rs 619 crore, will be ready within a year. The zoo will house 78 species including Asiatic lions, hog deer, crocodiles, and various birds.
The CM also distributed land allotment certificates to 89 Pong Dam settlers, with each family receiving Rs 3 lakh financial aid for building homes.
Responding to local concerns, Sukhu promised the Nandpur bridge construction will be completed by December, improving transport during the rainy season.
He criticized the previous BJP government, accusing it of neglecting the state’s needs and looting its wealth. “We want development without exploitation,” he said, emphasizing his government’s focus on protecting Himachal’s resources while promoting growth and tourism.
