In a tragic incident at a gurdwara in the Balachaur subdivision of Nawanshahr, an air conditioner compressor exploded on Monday, killing one woman and injuring ten others.
The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Kashmir Kaur. Another woman, 60-year-old Baljeet Kaur, suffered serious injuries and has been referred to PGI, Chandigarh for treatment. The remaining injured are said to be out of danger.
The explosion occurred around 1 pm, when a large number of devotees had gathered at the gurdwara. The sudden blast created panic, with people running in fear as smoke quickly filled the area.
Devotees had come from various nearby districts including Ropar, Ludhiana, and Garhshankar to attend the gathering.
One of the injured women, recalling the horrifying moment, said, “Smoke started coming out right after the explosion and spread everywhere. We didn’t even understand what had happened.”
Police reached the site shortly after the blast and have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
